Food and wine
In recent years, the food and wine scene in Berry has thrived. There are a number of award winning restaurants, fantastic cafes and high quality local speciality food producers. It is hard to pick favourites in a town bursting with great options, but for fine dining out not-to-be-missed picks are SOUTH on Albany, and Bussola Restaurant. For casual family-friendly dining try Post House in Berry and The Garden. During the day, our favourite spots are The Berry Tea Shop, Il Locale Gelato, Milkwood Bakery and The Hungry Monkey, and Queen Street Eatery.
For specialty foods or supplies you must visit The Treat Factory, South Coast Providores, the Berry Chocolatier and Flavours Shoalhaven. The local IGA has a wide variety of basics, speciality foods and fresh fruit and veggies.
Local wineries including Silos Estate, Coolangatta Estate, Two Figs Winery and Mountain Ridge Winery offer some of the most stunning views in the region and exceptional wines.
Adventure and exploration
If it’s a bit of adventure you are after, why not try a ride on Bigfoot – a monster bus that winds it’s way up Coolangatta Mountain from Coolangatta Estate Winery. Find out about the history of our areas as you enjoy the scenic ride from the regions earliest establishment.
The best walk in the area is to the escarpment cliffs known as ‘Drawing Room Rocks’ which can be accessed via Brogers Creek Road. A short drive to the coast along Beach Road brings you to Seven Mile Beach. Turn left on Crooked River Road to go to Gerroa, then Gerringong and enjoy the coastal walk to Kiama from Werri Beach.
Events and festivals
The Berry Markets are one of Berry’s most popular events. Held monthly on the first Sunday of each month, except February, the markets offer a wide range of stalls including handmade clothing and homewares, local specialty foods, plants & seedlings, flowers, fruit and veggies and more.
The annual events calendar kicks off with The Berry Show on the last weekend of January each year. This is a true local agricultural show with large cattle and horse shows, baby animal nursery, and entertainment, including rodeo, woodchopping, the Young Farmer Challenge, and there’s rides, show bags, fireworks and the announcement of the Berry Showgirl.
The Winter Wine Festival on the June long weekend is a highlight of the foodie calendar. Wineries across the Shoalhaven region host a three-day extravaganza of wine tasting, fine food and entertainment.
The spring calendar highlight is the Berry Gardens Festival. Each year, eight gardens in Berry village and the surrounding area open their gates to the public for 4 days. With gardens selected based on design, creativity and the range of plants, there is always something new to see.
